Melamine Board Colours: The Complete Guide to 150+ Finishes

Melamine board colours swatches showing woodgrain, solid, and stone finishes

Melamine board colours come in three main categories — Solid Colours, Woodgrain, and Stone/Non-Wood patterns — with RPI offering 150+ ready-stock and custom finishes, from AICA-collaborated wood-look designs like Persian Walnut to matte stone textures like Ardesia.

Choosing a melamine board colour is rarely just a design decision. It affects how a space feels, how furniture performs day to day, and how well a project scales when you need matching panels months or years later. This guide covers RPI’s real colour and pattern range, the surface properties behind each finish, and how to choose the right one for your project.

How Many Melamine Board Colours Does RPI Offer?

RPI currently produces 150+ colour and pattern variants across its melamine faced chipboard (MFC) range. These fall into two tiers:

  • Ready stock — Solid Colour Collection, available in standard sizes (1,220 x 2,440mm or 1,220 x 2,740mm) with double-sided finish, thicknesses from 6–30mm.
  • Custom order — Premium, Stone, Wood & Non-Wood designs, plus embossed textures (Alutex, Rainy, Timber, Flat, Sand, Fabric, Woody, Stone), available by request with a minimum order quantity, and with the option of a different design on each face of the board.

Popular Colour and Pattern Categories

For a full catalogue with individual colour names and codes, see the RPI melamine faced chipboard pattern and colour collection. The broad categories include:

Woodgrain finishes. Realistic wood-look surfaces in three tone groups:

  • Light tones — Classic White Oak, White Pagoda
  • Warm tones — Medium and Light Persian Walnut, Yellow Knotty Oak
  • Dark tones — Gray Dankova Birch, Brown Straight Ash

Solid and stone-inspired finishes. Non-wood patterns for a textile-like look include Beige Herringbone Wool and Castano Stoffa. For a minimalist, high-contrast finish, there’s Ardesia (plain black stone-effect) and Nero Stoffa (black with a fine white pattern).

Embossed textures. Custom-order boards can carry a physical surface texture — timber grain, fabric weave, sand, or stone — rather than just a printed pattern, which changes how the finish looks and feels under different lighting.

Why the Finish Holds Up: Surface Properties

A melamine board’s colour is only as good as its durability. RPI’s MFC surface is tested against several conditions:

  • Chemical resistance — no visible change after 24 hours of exposure to 5% acetic acid and 1% sodium carbonate
  • 耐刮性能 — no marking under a 0.75N diamond-needle test
  • Heat resistance — no marks or discolouration after 180°C for 10 minutes
  • Crack resistance — no cracking after 24 hours at 70°C
  • Steam resistance — no swelling after 1 hour of boiling steam exposure
  • Stain resistance — no colour change from coffee, tea, soy sauce, ketchup, milk, or honey

That means you can specify the same colour confidently for a kitchen cabinet, an office desk, or a retail display — the finish performs, not just looks good on day one.

How RPI Produces Its Melamine Board Colours

RPI has manufactured MFC since 2019, in partnership with AICA — one of the design collaborations behind its wood-look and textured pattern ranges. Production runs on a ContiRoll press from Siempelkamp, the first of its kind in Asia, at a facility with 109,000 m³/year capacity in Kendal, Central Java. RPI has also held JIS certification since 2007, and its board materials are FSC-certified.

Choosing the Right Colour for Your Project

A few practical factors matter more than trend when picking a finish:

  • Lighting — lighter solid colours and pale woodgrains help smaller or dimly lit rooms feel more open; darker tones work well in larger, well-lit spaces.
  • 应用 — kitchens and bathrooms benefit from finishes paired with HMR (moisture-resistant) core rather than standard core, regardless of colour.
  • Matching across a project — for large orders (e.g. matching cabinetry across multiple rooms), ready-stock Solid Colours are easier to reorder consistently than custom finishes with minimum order requirements.
  • Sample first. Emboss and stone-effect finishes read differently under different lighting, so it’s worth requesting a physical sample before committing to a full order.
